I was fortunate to be able to use the 20 foot (bed length) planer at the Samuel Knight Foundry in Sutter Creek, CA, to cut the rust off the lathe bed.
Got it a little flatter at the same time.
More cutting is going on here.
The foundry's machine shop is, I believe, the last water-powered shop in the West, and the Samuel Knight Chapter of the Society for Industrial Archaeology is trying to preserve
it. The planer is powered by its own water motor.
Sam Thompson is setting up this cut. I am the guy with the suspenders.
